Before You Go
The open space under a staircase is the perfect place to add a small shelving unit. The otherwise unusable space can be used for storage, as well as a place to display knickknacks. The shelves are cut to fit right under the stair slope, making them appear to be a built-in unit. Because this unit is set up right off a kitchen, designer John Gidding turned it into a mini bar and buffet.
Wall shelves are extremely practical and incredibly versatile…there’s no doubt about it. The manner is which they achieve that, however, is not universal. There are multiple different types of wall shelves, each with its own set of unique particularities and special features. Be sure to check out a few of them before making a final decision, just so you can be sure you’re picking the right shelves for the right space.
